A native plant garden has been constructed in the lightly wooded area to demonstrate the advantages of using native shrubs, herbaceous plants, and ground covers in landscaping. Plantings of both woodland and prairie/meadow specimens include species donated by the UNCC Botanical Garden, the neighborhood association, and neighbors, in addition to plants rescued  from development sites.
